The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) launched a Bring Your Own Device, or BYOD, pilot in the 2013-2014 school year. Many recent new policies had recently been put into place regarding the use of technology by students and staff and we needed a way to introduce the BYOD program as well as some of the expectations around using personal devices in the classroom.
This was an extra-enjoyable project because of the opportunity to be in front of the camera! Too often, communications specialists spend the majority of their time creating new initiatives, focused on writing or production, or simply putting out daily fires. It’s not often enough that I have the opportunity to step out front and deliver the message personally. Once my on-camera Hollywood moment was over, this was a quick one-day turnaround in post-production. The video was a simple one as we wanted to ensure that the message wasn’t being buried beneath layers of video effects and over-production.
This video got a lot of mileage throughout the year-long BYOD pilot program.
